Steve Webb MP Residents' Survey

I am always keen to hear from constituents on their views. Please fill in the short survey below. It should take no more than 5 minutes.

MP WELCOMES BROADBAND BREAKTHROUGH

Thornbury & Yate MP Steve Webb has welcomed this week’s announcement of European Union approval for a scheme which will bring ‘superfast’ broadband to the towns and villages of South Gloucestershire.

"NEW DAIRY CODE IS A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION" - WEBB

Local MP Steve Webb has welcomed the new dairy code which will protect dairy farmers from unfair price drops.

Earlier this year, many local people contacted Steve Webb MP after processors suddenly cut prices paid to farmers for their milk. Steve wrote to the Environment Secretary urging her to take urgent action to protect farmers. Following months of negotiations between the NFU, farming representative and industry leaders, a new code of practice has been signed off.

HELP OUR HIGH STREETS

I am campaigning to get South Gloucestershire Council to use their new powers on business rates to support small businesses on our high streets. We have been gathering signatures, both online and in shops, for a petition which we will then be presenting to the council and discussing with them what can be done from there to ensure that our high streets remain diverse.

You can read the Gazette's story on the campaign here.

MP WORKS WITH YATE BOWLS CLUB TO FIND NEW PREMISES

Thornbury & Yate MP Steve Webb has joined forces with Yate Indoor Bowls Club to help the club to find new premises now that it is no longer able to use a hall at Yate Leisure Centre.

The MP has joined Bowls Club committee members on a trip to Stroud to see a purpose built facility (see photo) which combines indoor and outdoor bowling as well as a licensed bar.

MP WELCOMES BROADBAND BOOST FOR THORNBURY

Local MP Steve Webb has welcomed the news that Thornbury will benefit from a £2.5 billion roll-out of superfast broadband, which will connect 16,000 new homes and businesses to faster internet speeds.

The upgrades, due in 2013, will bring a boost for businesses, internet users and the local economy, with the potential to create new enterprises and local jobs.

WEST MP CALLS FOR ACTION AS AMBULANCES WASTE 8,000 HOURS QUEUEING AT LOCAL CASUALTY DEPARTMENTS

Thornbury & Yate MP Steve Webb is pressing local hospitals to take action over ambulances being forced to waste hours queueing at local casualty departments.

The MP recently visited the Almondsbury control centre of the Great Western Ambulance Service to discuss ambulance response times following complaints from constituents.   In one case a constituent waited over an hour and a half for an ambulance and in the end had to be taken into hospital by the Police.

CAMPAIGNERS WELCOME NEW TICKET MACHINES AT YATE STATION

Campaigners in Yate are delighted to have won their long battle for a new ticket machine at Yate station.

The station has been without one since the previous machine was vandalised in 2009. At the time, First Great Western said they would not put it back because of the high risk of it being vandalised again. Now they have told the Friends of Yate Station that a new machine will be installed.
