Question 7

This question asked for the priorities of local people if new community based facilities were to be introduced, given the likely downgrading of existing central facilities:

Q7. If there were to be a new NHS facility in the Yate/Chipping Sodbury area, which service would you most like to see (please tick only one):

35%: walk-in minor injuries unit
23%: beds for people discharged from hospital but not ready to go home
29%: local outpatients appointments with hospital consultants
 9%: diagnostic facilities (x-ray etc.)
 2%: physio, occ. therapy etc.

Despite the hostility to the closure of centralized A&E departments, residents clearly valued the possibility of a new facility for minor injuries in the local area. The next highest priority was the possibility of seeing hospital consultants for appointments closer to home, and not having to travel to a major hospital site. This priority may well reflect the relatively poor public transport links between Yate/Sodbury and Southmead in particular. The other main request was for “intermediate care” beds where people could be helped to recover closer to their local community.
