Government Must Wake Up to Jobs Crisis

Commenting on today’s Chartered Institute of Personnel Development report that warns of a ‘jobs-light’ recovery, Liberal Democrat Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary, Steve Webb said:

“This worrying assessment shows that talk of recovery is premature.

“We are still unravelling the results of long term unemployment from the last recession and we must stop the same mistakes from happening again.

“Ministers must wake up to the seriousness of the unemployment crisis. They must scrap the VAT cut now and invest the savings in measures like a paid internship scheme which would help people get back to work.”
