Local MP Welcomes Plans for youth Cafe and Cinema in Yate

Northavon MP Steve Webb has welcomed Council plans to open a new youth cafe in Yate.

The café will be built on land next to Yate Leisure Centre and will offer 11 to 18-year-olds a place to meet their friends, watch films in a small cinema, enjoy music nights and even do their homework.

Plans have gone on display at the Leisure Centre and a planning application will be submitted to South Gloucestershire Council in late October. It is hoped that work will begin on building the cafe in June 2010 and that it will open in April 2011.

Commenting, Steve Webb said:

"We have been campaigning for this for many years and I am delighted that the plans are finally nearing fruition.

"Just as there is a pop-in cafe for the over-50s, it is great that young people will have their own area for socialising where they can feel safe."
