MP Praises Tytherington Leaders as Post Office
Reopens
Northavon MP Steve Webb has spoken in praise of parish leaders in
Tytherington with whom he has worked to get the village's post office
reopened. The post office closed in Autumn 2008, despite strong
local opposition to the plans and a packed
public meeting organised by the local
MP.
But since then the MP has worked alongside Roger Unwin,
Chair of Tytherington Parish Council and
Jeremy Evans, chair of the village shop committee to lobby government
and councils for funding to keep the post
office open. Now, after months of behind-the-scenes meetings and
lobbying, the post office is set to reopen on Monday 29th June.
Steve Webb said:
"We owe a great debt of gratitude to Tytherington Parish Council and to
the village shop committee for the leadership they have shown in working
to get the post office reopened. It has been a case of everyone pulling
together and refusing to take no for an answer. I am also hugely
grateful to Sue Baines from Cromhall post office whose willingness to
oversee the new venture was critical, and to staff and volunteers at the
shop and post office. I would also like to
thank Cllr Howard Gawler for his help in
securing funds towards the project and Cllrs John Calway and Ruth Davis
for meeting with us and agreeing the Council's contribution".
The post office is to be
re-opened at 9.30am on Monday 29th June by Tytherington's oldest resident.
