Tytherington on Tenterhooks over Post Office Rescue Bid

Tytherington residents are anxiously awaiting the outcome of a bid by local MP Steve Webb and civic leaders for a funding package to secure the future of the their village shop and post office.   The MP has joined forces with parish council chairman Roger Unwin and village shop chairman Jeremy Evans to submit a funding bid to South Gloucestershire Council for the next three years.

The aim is to put together funding between Tytherington residents and South Gloucestershire Council which would enable the recently-closed sub post office to be re-opened and would ensure the long-term future of the village shop.  The bid was submitted in mid October to the Council's head of finance and is currently under consideration.

Commenting on the bid, Steve Webb said:

"We were all very disappointed when Tytherington post office closed its doors last month, but I am determined not to give up without a fight.   I have worked hard with community leaders in Tytherington to put together a bid to the Council for a package of support that would not only allow the post office to re-open but would also help to guarantee the long-term future of the vill age shop.

"South Gloucestershire Council has passed motions supporting post offices and councillors have in the past pledged their support, so I hope that they will now back this up in a concrete way".
