Government Slow to Develop renewable Energy

Commenting on the results of the feasibility study into building a tidal barrage in the Severn Estuary published today by the Government, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Steve Webb said:

“The Severn Estuary is a key potential source of renewable energy. While this announcement is welcome, we have to ask why ministers waited 11 years before starting the long process of assessment and consultation.

“The UK is struggling near the bottom of the EU league table for use of renewable energy. Ministers must do more than simply tweak existing commitments and endlessly consult, and instead take effective measures such as implementing feed-in tariffs.”
