Local MP Calls on local Armed Forces veterans to Claim Recognition

Northavon MP Steve Webb has written to his local papers in South Gloucestershire to draw the attention of readers to the 'UK Armed Forces Veterans Lapel Badge' which celebrates the bravery and sacrifice of those serving our country.

In his letter, the MP explains that the badge was introduced in 2004 and is now available to all Veterans who served in HM Armed Forces before 31st December 1969. World War II Veterans who served in the Cyprus Regiment, Home Guard or Polish Forces under UK Command are also eligible, and there is no qualifying length of service. There is also a separate UK Merchant Seafarers Veteran's Badge for those who served prior to 31st December 1969 on a vessel which was operated to facilitate military operations.

Mr Webb is encouraging people who think that they or a family member might be eligible for this badge, to get in touch with him for more details.  He can be contacted either by e-mail at steve@stevewebb.org.uk or by phone on 01454 322100. He will send enquirers a House of Commons information sheet about the badge with full details about who is eligible and how to claim.

Commenting, Steve Webb said:

"I hope that every man and woman who served our country before 1969 takes this opportunity to have their sterling work officially honoured."
