Two Presidents and Two MPs in Olveston!

Simon Hughes MP, Northavon president Mrs
Beryl Powell, and local MP Steve Webb
The Christmas celebrations of Northavon Liberal Democrats at Olveston on
Saturday were marked by the presence of two presidents - local party
president, Mrs. Beryl Powell from Wick, and Lib Dem national party
president Simon Hughes MP. Simon Hughes, who visited South
Gloucestershire earlier in the year in support of the campaign to
protect Yate post office, was attending the annual "Christmas Crackers"
event in order to take part in the annual Christmas draw for the Lib
Dems nationwide.
The event was hosted by Chris and Cathy Bolton at the
Old Meeting House in Olveston and was a sell-out with a waiting list for
tickets. In addition to good food and the mind-stretching quizzes, local
party members rounded off the evening by gathering round the piano to
sing traditional Christmas carols.
Speaking after the event, local MP Steve Webb said:
"It has been another positive year for the party nationally, and the
local party is in good heart for the coming year, which seems set to
bring a General Election in May. We have told our local team that they
can have a few days off over Christmas, but then it will be all hands to
the pump in order to get our message out in the New Year".
