Lib Dem "Big Guns" To Visit Northavon
Three senior Liberal Democrat MPs — all members of the party’s Shadow
Cabinet — are to visit Northavon to participate in a variety of events
during the Autumn.
The first visitor will be Lembit Opik, MP for Montgomeryshire and leader
of the Welsh Liberal Democrats. Lembit has appeared on a wide range of
television programmes including “Have I Got New for You”, and was part
of the team of MPs that were roundly defeated on “University Challenge”.
He has also appeared on a number of television programmes recently with
his girlfriend, Welsh weather girl Sian Lloyd, including on “I’m a
Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here”. He is also well known for warning about
the threat
to the earth from asteroids—an issue that is now being taken seriously
by the Government!
Lembit will be giving the fourth annual “Heather Larkins memorial
lecture” on Friday 12th September at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall at
7.30pm. He will be speaking on the subject "a new style of politics". He
is strongly opposed to the "Punch and Judy" style of modern politics and
will set out his vision for how politics might be different in the
future. This event raises funds for bursaries to young people in the
local area to experience a week at the Lib Dem party conference.
Later in the Autumn on Saturday 11th October, Northavon Liberal
Democrats will hold their selection meeting to confirm their candidate
for Northavon for the next General Election. The event will take place
in the evening at Oldown Country Park, by kind permission of Robert
Bernays. The visiting speaker will be Don Foster, MP for Bath and Lib
Dem spokesperson on Transport.
The party’s annual constituency dinner will take place on Friday 7th
November at Old Sodbury Village Hall, with guest speaker Phil Willis, MP
for Harrogate. Phil is a former head-teacher and speaks on education
issues for the party.
