Webb on the Web!
Northavon MP Steve Webb will today launch his new and completely
redesigned web site by visiting ICT students at the Castle School sixth
form in Thornbury. The site will be put through its paces by Year 12
pupils who are themselves studying web site design as part of their
course, taught by head of ICT at the Castle School, Bill Flude.
The MP will talk to pupils about the purpose of his site, how it was
designed, and about the importance of MPs being accessible to their
constituents in as many ways as possible. The new site has been designed
by Mary Reid, a professional web site designer who has won awards for
her previous sites designed for MPs. New and improved features of the
site include:
* an easy sign-up to the MP’s e-mail group, to which nearly 1200 local
residents are already joined; this group is regularly consulted by Steve
Webb for their views on topical issues;
* immediate access to hundreds of newspaper columns and campaign
updates;
* an enhanced search facility, allowing local people to see what the
MP has said or written on any subject;
* access to a database of House of Commons motions to see which ones
Steve Webb has supported.
The site is updated on a regular basis with news of the latest campaigns
and Parliamentary activity that the MP has undertaken.
Commenting on the launch, Steve Webb said:
“Local people pay my wages and have a right to know what I am doing on
their behalf. I hope that this new site will make it much easier for
them to see what I am campaigning on and also to let me know their
views.”
