MP Applauds Community Hospital After Visit
Northavon MP Steve Webb has congratulated staff at Thornbury Hospital on
the high quality of care that they provide following a recent visit.
The MP was invited by Matron Maggie Sullivan of Thornbury Hospital to see
the work that goes on in a community hospital. Steve Webb toured Henderson
Ward, chatting to staff and patients, and also looked at the outpatient
clinics on the site, where local people can access a wide range of medical
services.
Maggie Sullivan explained that the hospital caters for adults of all ages,
meeting the needs of local people who have been referred directly by their
GP to Thornbury hospital. The hospital also
looks after people who have been discharged from larger hospitals but who
are not yet fully ready to return home, and also provides care for people
who are terminally ill.
Commenting after his visit, Steve Webb said:
“I was enormously impressed by the work that goes on at Thornbury
Hospital. It really is part of the community, and a number of patients
told me how nice it is that their friends can simply pop in and see them.
I am a great believer in community hospitals, and I hope that the role
of Thornbury hospital will develop and grow over the coming years. I pay
great tribute to the professionalism and care of Maggie Sullivan and the
staff at Thornbury Hospital”.
