Impending CSA Reform Chaos

Steve Webb MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary for Work and Pensions, commenting on the impending changes to the Child Support Agency, said today:

“It is essential to have a fair assessment which is effectively enforced. At the moment neither is true of the CSA and the April reforms will do nothing to change this situation.

“Up to 2 million people will be affected by changes to the way in which payments are calculated. The system being introduced is a chaotic two-tier system which will spread further confusion and ill-will amongst parents.

“Liberal Democrats believe the CSA should be abolished and its administration, collection and enforcement functions given to the Inland Revenue.

“In stark contrast to the CSA the Inland Revenue has a proven record of delivery and the infrastructure to do the job efficiently and effectively – which is what all parents need.”
