Diary Crest Closure

Northavon MP Steve Webb is seeking a meeting with Dairy Crest management following the announcement of plans to close the liquid milk dairy at Thornbury in November with the loss of 85 jobs. The company is consolidating its activities at its new “super dairy” on Severnside and it is hoped that at least some of those employed at Thornbury will transfer to the new plant. However, in anticipation that not all jobs will be transferred, the company is also setting up a “job shop” at Thornbury to provide individual advice about job opportunities.

Steve Webb said:

“I am very disappointed to hear of the closure of the Dairy Crest dairy at Thornbury. I hope to meet soon with staff and management at the dairy to seek to ensure that everything possible is done to minimise the effects of this closure on workers at the dairy and their families”.
