Polls of South Gloucestershire residents regularly show that a cinema in Yate Town Centre would be greatly valued, by young and old alike and by residents not just of Yate but from the surrounding towns and villages.  A cinema would also contribute to the goal of creating an "evening economy" in Yate.

The Cinema4Yate campaign has received support from thousands of local residents, who have returned postal surveys and visited the campaign website www.cinema4yate.com to make their views known.

Plans for a cinema have been put back by a change in ownership of Yate Shopping Centre.  I have had a meeting with the new owners and stressed how important a cinema is to local people.  They are currently working on the first phase of changes to the shopping centre, but have promised to bring forward detailed plans in 2007 and have indicated that a site for a cinema is likely to be included in these plans.
